    Learning Experience

  • “Education is a natural process carried out by the human individual, and is acquired not by experiences in the environment.”
    -Maria Montessori
  • Our learning plan is build on the fundamental truth that each child is a valuable individual who possesses unique gifts and learning styles and to activate the child’s own natural desire to learn we adopt ‘fun and hands on’ MARIA MONTESSORI approach to pre-primary education.

The following curricula in Sunshine are introduced age-appropriately, developmentally, and thematically with great attention given to the readiness of each child and in a variety of setting for the children to be experienced, such as interest areas (in and outdoor), learning centers, large group, small group and one-to-one settings.

    • Sensorial

The Sensorial area refines childrens’ senses, from visual to stereognostic. It teaches concepts such as big and small, thick and thin, long and short with concrete materials.

    • Culture

The Cultural area of the Montessori classroom covers a variety of subjects. Geography, Science, Botany, Zoology and History are included.

    • Practical Life

The Practical Life area helps the child gain control in the coordination of his movement, and help the child to gain independence and adapt to his society.

    • Mathematics

The Mathematics area gives the children a concrete experience with real objects. When they understand the real value of numbers, abstract ideas such as number symbols become more easy.

    • Language

The Language area teaches children how to conceptualize and build the reading foundation through phonics.

    • Art and Craft

Art and Craft not only develops fine motor skills, but also boosts creativity, confidence and self-expression in children. The more experience they have with a variety of materials and techniques, the more likely they are to try new combinations and ideas.

    • Manners and Character Building

The most important function of education at any level is to develop the personality of the individual and the significance of his life to himself and to others.

    • It is true that we cannot make a genius. We can only give to teach child the chance to fulfil his potential possibilities

      – Maria Montessori
    • A liberal education is at the heart of a civil society, and at the heart of a liberal education is the act of teaching

      – A. Bartlett Giamatti
    • Better than a thousand days of diligent study is one day with a great teacher

      – Japanese Proverb
    • Children must be taught how to think, not what to think

      – Margaret Mead
    • Teaching is more than imparting knowledge it is inspiring change

      – William Arthur Ward
    • Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn

      – Benjamin Franklin
  • When our educators teach, we must ask ourselves:

    What do I Know
And what do I want the kids know?
    How do I feel?
And how do I want them feel?
    What should I do?
    And what should they do?

So our concept of great communication is when we combine our thoughts – feelings – actions and
    translate it into words.

  • The language used in teaching must be common to teacher and learner – in must understood by each, with the same meaning to both.

  • MONTESSORI PRINCIPLES IN SUNSHINE PRESCHOOL:

  • Independence
When the children are able to do things for themselves there is an increase in their self belief, self confidence and esteem that they may carry on throughout their life.
  • Observation
Observation is the way adults can learn about what the child needs are, therefore it is critical for their growth.
  • Following The Child
The children will show you what they need to do, what they need to develop in themselves and what area they need to be challenged in.
  • Correcting The Child
If children make mistakes, there is no need to raise your voice or to blatantly point out a child’s mistake. We need to teach them in a supportif manner.
  • Prepared Environment
The prepared environment is a beautiful and safe place for the child to explore freely and invites them to work.
  • Absorbent Mind
Children 0-6 years absorb everything in the environment by experiencing it and being part of it.
